| NDT/BOBATH CERTIFICATE COURSE IN THE MANAGEMENT AND TREATMENT OF CHILDREN WITH CEREBRAL PALSY AND OTHER NEUROMOTOR DISORDERS DATES: Thursday, June 17 – Monday, June 21, 2010 Thursday, July 29 – Monday, August 2, 2010 Thursday, August 26 – Monday August 30, 2010 Thursday, October 7 – Monday, October 11, 2010 Thursday, October 21 – Monday, October 25, 2010 Thursday, November 11 – Monday, November 15, 2010 Dear NDT Course Applicant: Thank you for your expressed interest in the NDTA,Inc./Bobath Certificate Course in the Management and Treatment of Children with Cerebral Palsy and Other Neuromotor Disorders to be hosted by The Center for Children’s Rehabilitation @ The Beaumont Health Center in Royal Oak, MI. This is an exciting and intensive training course for physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech and language pathologists comprised of both theoretical and practical work. The material presented in the course is based upon the theoretical and practical concepts developed by Dr. Karel and Mrs. Berta Bobath and conforms to the standards established by the North American NDT Association, Inc. This course will be held at The Center for Children’s Rehabilitation @ The Beaumont Health Center in Royal Oak, MI. Please note that this is an intensive five (5)-day weekend format over six (6) months. The number of days in class will total 30 days with class running between the hours of 8:00 am and 6:00 pm. There may be slight changes in the hours to accommodate special needs but you will be informed, in advance, of any changes. There may be evening sessions that will be scheduled during the course with adequate time to make arrangements. Before the start of the course, you will receive a reference list of materials that will help you prepare for the course and you will be asked to bring your required copy of Neuro-Developmental Treatment Approach/Theoretical Foundations and Principles of Clinical Practice by Janet M. Howle which can be purchased through the website: www.ndta.org. This course is taught by a team of professionals from the disciplines of physical and occupational therapies and speech and language pathology. In addition, other appropriate professionals will assist in the course. This course curriculum is outlined to include a minimum of 263 hours, inclusive of lectures, group work and presentations, discussions, demonstrations, lab, and patient treatment. The course will cover: fundamentals of NDT philosophy; neurophysiology as it relates to NDT; typical and atypical movement development; fine motor development and sensorimotor aspects of development of functional skills, typical and atypical development of pre-speech, speech, and respiratory and feeding function; lower extremity development and the progression through space, including gait; and treatment principles and application. The course is limited to a total of 26 therapists, including physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech and language pathologists. The selection of students is based on the criteria set forth by the NDTA Instructors’ Group in collaboration with the NDTA, Inc. Board of Directors. These criteria relate to the applicant’s experience with children with cerebral palsy, competency, current therapeutic responsibilities, pediatric related continuing education, and potential for future implementation of the skills gained during the course. Qualified applicants will be accepted into the course in the order the applications are received, subject to their discipline (OT/PT/ST). Please seek pre-approval for your personal time off as well as the monetary agreement with your facility. Prerequisites for admission to the NDT Course: One year professional experience with children with cerebral palsy and related neuromotor disorders. Current employment and direct clinical caseload of children with cerebral palsy. Physical ability to fully participate in all aspects of the strenuous nature of this course. Current registration or licensure as required by your profession. Speech pathologists must have their CCC.
